Weekend Wonders

Happy Monday everyone!  Hope you had a great weekend.  I had the opportunity to see the work of some very talented young designers on Saturday night, my beautiful niece Kelly, among them.

Her Midwestern University held its annual fashion show, where design students got a chance to present their original creations to the public for the very first time.

Models strutted down the catwalk in garments that were both designed and sewn by students.  The show kicked off with some gorgeous works that highlighted fabric manipulation, wrapping, recycling, surface design, and draping.

The dress above was made from recycled men’s neckties.

Lovely interpretations of the Little Red Dress emerged on the runway.

The full length jersey mermaid dress above was created by my niece :)

The much anticipated Senior Collections capped off the show and did not disappoint.  From classic to avant garde, students dazzled the audience with  their creations.  I saw some beautiful examples of pleating and draping, and gorgeous floaty gowns that were hand sewn in Paris during student internships.  I am certain that we’ll be hearing about some of these talented young designers, who will soon be making their mark in the fashion world.  Congrats and bravo!
